Last week I spoke with my good friend Kathy Long. Even though we live on opposite coasts, we’re still like brother and sister. (As you can see by this fun photo taken in 1999.)
In my book, Kathy’s one of the best.
During the last 15 years, she’s become one of my closest and most trusted friends in the entire martial arts world. Kathy has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. What’s interesting is that she can probably also rip your heart out, too, faster than any other female I know.
She’s a true warrior right down to the bone. Nothing superficial with her.
Anyhow, in case you haven’t heard the news, Kathy is getting ready to return to the ring in August. Only this time, she wont’ be kickboxing. Nope. She’ll be fighting MMA.
Kathy tells me that she’s training like a beast. Several workouts a day. However, she’s having a tough time finding other fighters in her area who are willing to spar with her on a consistent basis. No surprises there.
Well it goes without saying that Kathy is one extremely tough chick. Though her background in the arts actually stems from Kung Fu San Soo, she’s a natural master of virtually any kind of combative sport.
To Kathy, a fight is a fight is a fight…and the only acceptable end result is to win. So whether it’s a street fight or MMA, I know she will kick some serious booty.
