The Kata of Business

The Kata of Business

My good friend Don Warrener of Rising Sun Productions recently published a book called the Kata of Business. It was a nice surprise to receive this autographed and numbered gift in the mail.

I read the book from cover to cover and you may want to do the same.

Right out of the gate, let me tell you that this book is not “advanced.” And that’s not a bad thing, since running a martial arts school is not exactly rocket science.

Don’s book will benefit you mostly if you are a small school owner, who feels a little lost when it comes to growing your school. If you’re in this category and you are seeking some guidance, then this book is for you.

The Kata of Business would also be a very valuable asset to you if you are an instructor who is thinking about opening a school for the first time and you want some solid advice on how to get started on the right foot. Avoiding as many beginner mistakes as possible is key. So is mastering the basics. In this book, Don really focuses on teaching you the basics…according to him and his experiences as a school owner/businessman.

This book is NOT for the guy who is already operating a mid to large sized school and doing well. In fact, Don points this out himself in the opening of the book.

One thing I can tell you for sure is that the material in this book comes from a true karate guy, a wise individual and a very clever entrepreneur. According to Don, he once owned “32 schools, 105 martial arts franchises and 9,000+ students.”  Do you think you can learn a thing or two from him?

Everything written is 100% from the heart. He pulls no punches and clearly has very strong convictions.

Page after page, Don reveals his methods, strategies, philosophies, personal opinions and best-kept secrets on how to run a profitable school. He even includes various hand-drawn illustrations that will help you facilitate your sales process, design your office, lay your school out properly, etc.

Don is NOT a grammarian or an editor. Again, he’s a karate guy (and a seriously experienced one at that). So if you’re looking for a perfectly polished literary masterpiece, you may need to look elsewhere. When you buy this book, you’ll need to look past the typos and other grammar stuff. Frankly, what matters is the advice, anyhow.

In conclusion, this book is loaded with highly opinionated, yet outstanding content, which will really get you on course for success, especially if you’re an up-and-comer in the biz. It comes with three DVDs and one CD of the book itself. None of it is designed to sell you anything more. It simply is what it is. Content…the Don Warrener way.

Until the English language comes up with a better word then “Thank you very much” i will simply say “Thank you very much”.
